This is a must-stop for vegans, vegetarians, and anyone craving a break from pig-happy typical Spanish menus -- and it's very reasonably priced, too. The only caveat: you'll need a reservation, even if the place looks dead.
We made the mistake of stopping in during one of those aforementioned dead times, at lunch on a Tuesday, and were politely told we'd need to come back. We were able to reserve a table for dinner that night.
El Laurel is 100% vegetarian, with a variety of vegan selections (though very few vegan desserts). We opted for a mix: croquetas with boletes, a vegetable "pudding" (really more of an omelet) with mixed vegetables and an apple based sauce, a seitan-like stew, and a soy cutlet. The first three were excellent, while the fourth was just OK-- kind of like a supermarket "chicken" cutlet with sauce. For dessert we had a mint-chocolate semifreddo (also terrific) and a coconut milk flan (a bit overwhelming on the coconut). We got all of this-- plus a glass of rose and a Galician sidra -- all for 19 euros per person. Name me a stateside restaurant where you can eat that we'll for so little.
The service is also very friendly at El Laurel, but since it's just one server, it can get a bit slow. Instead of getting impatient, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience of a leisurely, creative, and we'll prepared meal. -

Beautiful restaurant! Requires reservations because very popular (for good reason) &limited amount of tables. The attention to detail is gorgeous. Amazing little haven for vegans/vegetarians making their way through pig-loving Spain. Got the hummus, apple dessert (forget the name)& sangria. 10/10 Cannot wait to go back.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here!
We have been traveling in Spain for over a month. Eating in restaurants every day means you start to crave vegetables so El Laurel was a delicious change from jamón and mariscos.
Their lunch menu featured a list of dishes from which we chose two each then a dessert along with a drink; vino, sidra, zumo or mineral water, and lovely whole grain bread.
It was all delicious and the portions were generous!
The server was friendly and super tolerant of my mediocre Spanish!
We enjoyed every aspect of El Laurel. Give them a try.
